Pathways to Happiness

Pathways to Happiness provides phone and e-mail seminars to develop happiness-producing habits in your daily life. The practices we teach are research based and our format is designed according to scientific study of how people actually change habits. (Self-help books don't help much!) Join the inspiration and discussion meetings from anywhere in the country ... or the world, with no commute!

Our classes cultivate the strengths and creativity you already possess. Based on the ground-breaking work of Dr. Martin Seligman, who pioneered the field of positive psychology, Pathways will introduce you to specific, practical practices that lead to a happier, more contented life. While your life will never be free of pain and challenge, Pathways will provide you with resilient responses. You will recognize life's obstacles as opportunities for growth and compassion, rather than as insurmountable obstacles.

Your coach, Dr. Nancy Montagna, guides you through weekly cycles of inspiration, information, homework, accountability, and exchanges with peers. The method of learning as well as the content is research-based to support you to bring new habits into your life.

The four major pathways for increasing happiness are Purpose, Passion, Pleasurable emotion, and Presence. Pathways' practices move you along these routes to meaningful, enduring life satisfaction. The skills you learn will enhance every aspect of your life, your relationships, and your career.

Best of all, the courses are taught by phone and e-mail, so you don't have to leave your home or office to embark on this life-changing journey toward happiness! You can participate while traveling.

If, after the first two telephone classes, you do not feel that this course will lead to increased happiness in your life, we will refund your entire tuition (minus a $60 registration fee), no questions asked. Take the next step on your journey toward happiness.

Maximizing Joy! (7 weeks, weekly Inspiration on Tuesday evenings and Discussion Group Calls on Sunday evenings) $350

  • How positive emotions increase your own health and well-being, while also having an impact on your family, your community, and the larger world.
  • Why happiness is a choice and how it leads to better health and a more fulfilling life.
  • How to cultivate gratitude in your life, and how gratitude is linked to happiness.
  • How to have less conflict and more fulfillment at home and at work.
  • How to change your negative habits into positive actions and thus increase your happiness quotient.

Building On Strengths (9 weeks, weekly Inspiration Calls & Discussion Calls) $450

  • Discover your top character strengths
  • Apply your character strengths to challenges and difficulties in your life
  • Use your strengths to enter into flow, or passionate engagement, more frequently
  • Knowing your strengths, clarify your purpose in life.
     
To be scheduled 
Loving Relationships (6 weeks, weekly Inspiration Calls & Discussion groups) $300
  • Using mindfulness to create more presence in your important relationships
  • Learn about how human bonding can both wound AND heal us
  • Use your knowledge of bonding to feel more trusting and secure in your relationships, and be able to offer these qualities to others
  • Practice more gratitude and forgiveness in our relationships

Disarming the Inner Critic (10 weeks, 6 bi-weekly, 75 min combined Inspiration and Discussion call, 20 min practice daily) $240

  • Recognize the insidious and incessant voice of your inner critic
  • Identify your pessimistic and optimistic thinking habits
  • Identify and dispute the core beliefs that underlie the inner criticÀšÃƒ€š€™s monologue
  • Embrace new optimistic choices and behaviors.

Gratitude (4 weeks, weekly 75 min combined Inspiration and Discussion Call, 15-30 min/day practice) $160

  • What is gratitude, and what are the physical, psychological, and spiritual benefits of a grateful perspective?
  • Exploring the link between gratitude and attention
  • Naikan practice in relationships & daily practice of Naikan
  • How to have less conflict and more fulfillment at home and at work.
  • Writing gratitude letters
