Pathways to Happiness  ~ Learning, not Luck

Pathways to Happiness provides phone and e-mail seminars to develop happiness habits in your daily life. The practices we teach are research-based and our format is designed according to scientific studies of how people actually change habits. (Self-help books don't help much!) Join the inspiration and discussion meetings from anywhere in the country ... or the world, with no commute!

There are four proven pathways to increasing happiness.  These are PRESENCE (or, "mindfulness"), POSITIVE EMOTION, PASSION (or, "flow"), and PURPOSE.  The happiest people in the world have lots of all of these, and all of us have room for more.  The good news is that research is giving us better and better information about how we can grow in these ways.

Our purpose is to provide you with springboards to greater freedom to experience joy, meaning, and satisfaction in your life.  Happiness is about learning, not luck.

The Pathways guarantee: If, after the first two telephone classes, you do not feel that your chosen course will lead to increased happiness in your life, we will refund your entire tuition (minus a $60 registration fee), no questions asked.  If after attending the complete course, you feel that you have not gotten your money's worth, we will refund whatever portion of the fee you feel was not earned by us.  This applies to every one of our courses. 

Maximizing Joy! Begins Sept 20, 2010

 Presence (Mindfulness), and Positive Emotions are two of the proven pathways to increasing happiness.  You will learn to direct your attention in ways that favor your own health and well-being, while also having an impact on your family, your community, and the larger world.  

You will learn:

  • Practices to increase Positive Emotion and how these enhance intelligence and creativity.
  • Practices to increase Presence for less reactivity and greater peace of mind
  • How gratitude is linked to happiness and how to cultivate it in your life.
  • How to emphasize the positive for more fulfillment in relationships at home and at work.
  • Ways to bring your thinking brain into balance with your "ancestral mind" for increased joy and serenity.

 The course includes 8 Inspiration calls with homework, and, following up a few days later, 8 discussions. 

Weekly Inspiration Calls, Monday evenings, 7:30 - 8:30 PM, recorded for your convenience.
Weekly homework is assigned to help you practice what is preached!

Weekly partner calls at your convenience  (optional but highly recommended!) 

Weekly Discussion Calls, beginning on the second week, Sunday evenings, 7:30 - 8:30 PM,  recorded for your convenience.  Discussion groups have a maximum of 12 people.  Additional discussions will be scheduled at other times depending on class enrollment.

  • Use your strengths to enter into flow, or passionate engagement, more frequently
  • Use your knowledge of strengths to bring out the best in the people around you
  • Clarify your purpose in life

Loving Relationships Open-hearted loving is one of the most powerful routes to happiness.  Research over the past 50 years has consistently shown that some important patterns in our ability to love and be loved are determined for all of our lives in the first year of life!  As we journey through life, however, the patterns can change, through learning emotional self-care and with the help of people who love us.  
  • Practice being mindfully present in your important relationships

  • Care for yourself in the ways you long for with �a little help from your friends.�

Disarming the Inner Critic  Learn to Think Like an Optimist!
Pessimists think they are more realistic.  Not true!  As we travel into the future, we are creating much of the reality that we encounter.  Pessimists talk themselves out of going for what they want and suffer more when things go wrong.  It turns out that optimists are happier and more successful in love, in sports, and in their work.  Optimists are less likely to become depressed or anxious and they bounce back from failure. The good news is we all can learn to think optimistically!

  • Recognize the insidious voice of your inner critic for what it is.
  • Learn what it means to think optimistically.
  • Identify the core beliefs that underlie the inner critic's monologue
  • Embrace and act upon an optimistic understanding of yourself and the world.

      Note different format: There is one weekly call that combines Inspiration and Discussion.  It will be
